The NBA Finals are over — what, you didn’t know they had started? —Well the San Antonio Spurs’ swept the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0

As I predicted in this YouTube Video after the Spurs beat the Suns, this is what we would look like watching the rest of the NBA playoffs.

Soon as the Phoenix Suns - San Antonio Spurs series was over the rest of the playoffs were going to be boring to watch.

Seems I wasn’t alone. Reading some of the viewer ratings, not only did folks think it was not going to be exciting, they didn’t bother to watch it all all.

San Antonio’s four-game sweep of Cleveland finished with a record-low 6.2 television rating and 11 share on ABC, according to Nielsen Media.

It was down 27 percent from the 8.5/15 for Miami’s six-game victory over Dallas last year and 5 percent under the previous low, a 6.5/12 for San Antonio’s six-game win over New Jersey in 2003.

The NBA finals averaged 9.3 million viewers this year.

San Antonio’s series-winning 83-82 victory on Thursday night got a 6.5/12, down 17 percent from the 7.8/14 for Game 4 last year.

Now there is all kind of talk about seeding the playoffs. That means forgetting the division alignments and rating teams one through 16, regardless of conference. With this idea the hope is that the best two teams will actually meet up in the playoff finals, regadless of their geographic location or the East-West conference.

Then this would eliminate basically what happened this year where the two best teams met up in an elimination series and the winner went on to trounce the rest of the division and the East conference champs.

I doubt they will be seeding the playoffs anytime soon, they have been talking about it for years, but something needs to be done.
