.
In this, almost famous, blog article I told you The Japanese have been using cell phones for a couple years now, that allow consumers to purchase any number of goods.

Well it looks like they have finally brought it to the US. Verizon Wireless says it will offer its customers a mobile payment service that lets them use their cell phone as a credit card.

It is not exactly a credit card, but more of a payment service where you use Obopay’s mobile payment service to receive, send and spend money via their mobile phones.

They say you will be able to use a prepaid MasterCard at any ATM or retail outlet that accepts credit cards.
Users also can check their account balances, collect money owed from other mobile users and view transaction histories.

As you (may or may not have read) in my first blog article.

Nothing new really. But what has happened is it has caused a problem with Cell Phone Stealing.
If you get access to someone’s cell phone you can easily buy whatever you want by simply swiping their phone.

There is also going to be some expense, I am sure, to use this service.
It will be interesting to see if it takes off in the US. I for one would worry about security and if it costs me more, I will be glad to whip out my wallet and swipe my card manually.

Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg said: “We used to say you needed three things when you leave your house: your cell phone, car keys and wallet,” Seidenberg said. “Soon, you’ll only need your cell phone.”

One Response to “Verizon to offer Credit card service on Cell Phone”

    1. This is just what we need? Another thing to make sure someone doesn’t hijack and run up bills with. It’s hard enough to keep credit card fraud down on the internet, and now we’ll have to worry about our phones make fraudulent charges.
