Sling Media Releases SlingPlayer for Windows 2.0 Public Beta

Posted on 7th August, 2008 by BC Blog Team

Latest Sling Media and Slingbox News from the SlingCommunity
Sling Media today unveiled SlingPlayer for Windows 2.0 Public Beta, a preview of the next generation SlingPlayer software for desktop PCs.

It’s been almost two years since Sling Media released SlingPlayer for PC 1.4 - their last ’significant’ upgrade to the software that Slingers rely on to watch their home television on a computer screen anywhere in the world.

The latest version of SlingPlayer software for PC brings a whole new level of functionality to Slingbox owners.
The new software allows you to watch and control your living room TV on your PC with more flexibility, fun, and even greater control than ever before. SlingPlayer for Windows 2.0 marks the introduction of two new major features: A 60 Minute Live Buffer that adds DVR-like abilities to pause and rewind live television, as well as an integrated program guide that makes browsing current listings a breeze compared to virtually controlling a set-top box or DVR.

Noticeably absent in SlingPlayer 2.0 is Clip+Sling , Sling’s YouTube-like feature for cutting out clips of whatever you’re watching and uploading it to a portal site to share with others. Sling Media showed a working demo of Clip+Sling back at CES in January, and expected to…

Great Free Sansa Media Converter

Posted on 7th August, 2008 by BC Blog Team

Latest article from the SansaCommunity
I’ve used this program countless times for converting video to the Sansa View. Its a bit faster than the SMC and a good alternative if you’re having trouble with the SMC. The program is called "Any Video Converter" and can be downloaded from www.any-video-converter.com make sure to select the Free One You need to make sure you are using the correct specifications for converting the video: Container (file extension) .Mp4 Resolution: 320×240 Frame Rate: 30FPS Video: 384 or 512 Audio: 128/192kbps (up to you really) Sample: 44100 See comments in the pictures below on how to make this all work. Take the converted file once done, and drag and drop into the Video folder of the View and you’re good to go.

SlingPlayer 2.0 beta goes public

Posted on 7th August, 2008 by BC Blog Team

The beta version of the SlingPlayer 2.0 software is now available for Windows users as a free download from Sling Media’s Web site. The software, which allows owners of the company’s Slingbox products to access their TV programming via any broadband-connected PC, includes several notable upgrades from the previous version:

  • Live video buffer: Whether or not your Slingbox is connected to a DVR, you now have the ability to pause, rewind, and fast-forward up to an hour’s worth of programming.
  • Onscreen programming guide: A channel programming grid is now integrated into the software, so you can see what’s on, and jump channels just by clicking on what you want to watch. You can view your entire channel lineup, or a stripped-down list of favorites that you designate.
  • Integrated Sling accounts: Sign up for a Sling account and your preferences are stored online (that’s “in the cloud” for you Webware readers). As a result, any interface tweaks you make (such as channel favorites) will have a consistent look and feel, no matter how many machines you install the program on.

What you won’t find aboard this version is the “Clip+Sling” feature that the company has been talking about for the better part of two years.

Paris Hilton runs for President

Posted on 5th August, 2008 by BC Blog Team

Remember that John McCain attack ad that compared Barack Obama to airhead celebrities Britney Spears and Paris Hilton? Well, it seems that John McCain has unleashed something far worse than accusations of race baiting or mud slinging. He’s unleashed the full star power of Paris Hilton herself. The hotel heiress has posted a clip on popular video site Funny or Die running for President. From the video:

Hey America, I’m Paris Hilton and I’m a celebrity too. Only I’m not from the olden days and I’m not promising change like that other guy. I’m just hot.

But then that wrinkly white haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I’m running for president. So thanks for the endorsement white-haired dude and I want America to know that, like, I’m totally ready to lead.

She’s even mastered the art of triangulation and campaigning from the centre. Case in point, her energy policy at 1:06 in the clip. Wonder what she has to say about the subprime mortgage crisis and the war in Iraq?

Yahoo to extend Service for Sansa Connect

Posted on 3rd August, 2008 by BC Blog Team

According to Apix over at the SansaCommunity, Yahoo is going to to extend Service for Sansa Connect

He said.

Press release that will soon be… released (hate using the same word twice in a sentence like that), Yahoo is extending their service for the connect through August. Once the final day has been reached, there will be a firmware update that will allow the usage of all other wireless abilities (aside from Yahoo obviously) to still be used.

It is still unknown if Real will decide to bring up another wireless service to take Yahoo’s place at this time.

Check out his post here or other Sansa information.
