One we want: Sansa Fuze (The Record)

Latest Sansa News from the SansaCommunity
The Sansa Fuze from SanDisk is a top-notch music and video player, and it’s all Apple’s fault. Apple has had a string of hits with its hugely popular iPod line of music and video players, and other manufacturers have lined up to try to get their own slice of that pie.

Latest Sansa News from the SansaCommunity
Some might call this range from SanDisk ‘fun’. Personally, I think they’re a visual stick-shoved-in-the-eyeballs, but each to their own. The Sansa Fuze range is finally launching in the UK after being available over the pond since mid-March, but I think the company might have some competition on their hands with the Creative Zen Stones, and Samsung Pebbles. Not to mention those Apple iPod Nanos, …

SanDisk acquires MusicGremlin

Posted on 10th June, 2008 by BC Blog Team

Latest article from the SansaCommunity
From: Engadget Quite a bit of time has elapsed since we last saw fit to mention MusicGremlin on these pages, but the long-lost outfit has found itself relevant again thanks to SanDisk. Announced today, the latter firm has acquired the former, and we’re told that the acquisition will (expectedly) fall under the Sansa audio / video business unit. According to Daniel Schreiber, general manager and senior VP of the aforesaid unit, MusicGremlin’s "digital distribution platform and capabilities will provide SanDisk with adaptive and innovative technology that will play a key role in the development of future Sansa products for consumers," though he didn’t elaborate much beyond that. To be frank, we have some serious respect for the Sansa line as-is, so we’re quite interested to see what impact (if any) this will eventually have on the crew we’ve come to know so well. “MusicGremlin’s digital distribution platform and capabilities will provide SanDisk with adaptive and innovative technology that will play a key role in the development of future Sansa products for consumers,” said Daniel Schreiber, general manager and senior vice president for SanDisk’s Sansa audio/video business unit. Sling announces proof-of-concept SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone

Posted on 8th June, 2008 by BC Blog Team

From Engadget:

We had a feeling it was coming any day now, but now we have confirmation that Sling won’t be leaving iPhone and iPod touch users in the lurch when it comes to streaming TV to their devices. The bad news is the software they showed us was pre-alpha proof-of-concept, and their whole situation is hamstrung by the fact that Apple hasn’t officially accepted them into the developer program yet. So what we’ve seen is basically an app developed out of bounds for jailbroken devices — thus it goes without saying that Sling won’t be releasing it until they can do so legitimately. But assuming all goes well, they do intend to get it out the door by sometime this fall or winter. No word yet on the Android release. Video of the app in action after the break.

Comcast Filings Hint At Video Gadgets

Posted on 7th June, 2008 by BC Blog Team

Looks like Comcast and SlingMedia have a couple of diffferent gadgets they are looking at….

From:

http://webcast.broadcastnewsroom.com/articles/viewarticle.jsp?id=415299#

Comcast has designs for two new devices that would pry TV programming loose from subscribers’ living-room television sets—products clearly intended to protect its core cable video business from emerging Internet-delivered content players. Last fall Comcast registered for trademark protection for AnyReach, a portable TV and video player, and XtraScreen, which appears to provide a way to sling television content to computers over a wireless connection. The AnyReach filing describes a handheld media player for recording and playing back audio and video, and alludes to “broadcasting and streaming” of media to portable devices. XtraScreen covers “computer hardware and software for streaming audio and video content,” as well as wireless transmission of voice, data, images and information. The trademark application also refers to entertainment services providing television programming via a “global computer network” and wireless networks…….
