If you have not seen the flagrant foul that Robert Horry put on Steve Nash last night then you need to watch this first.

What everyone is wondering is if Robert Horry was told to foul Steve Nash hard.
Of course he was told to foul him. That’s hoe the game is played. But was he told to hit him hard and hope to get some suspensions out of it?

I had an email discussion about this with Mark Asher of the Gambo and Ash show and Ash doesn’t think Popovich told him to do it.
I am not so sure.

Coming back from a time out, down by three, I wouldn’t doubt Horry was told what to do if the San Antonio Spurs didn’t score. This would not be the first time Robert Horry was told to take one for the team!

You decide, watch the video and you will see how Robert Horry waits for Steve Nash. Everyone else is running down court and he stops, waits and then wham!

Now, Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw are suspended for tomorrow nights game. Looks to me like Popovich’s plan worked.

    1. You seem to be implying that Horry was told to take Nash out. Of course he was trying to foul Nash, that’s the logical play in that situation. As a Spurs fan it just proves how you and I see things so differently because of our loyalties.

You try to make your case by saying everyone else is running downcourt, but the video clearly shows three Spurs still in the backcourt.

Anyway, I replayed this on my tivo over and over. First, it’s funny that Steve Kerr is recommending that Thomas give a hard foul on Duncan seconds before he is agast when a hard foul is given on Nash! All’s fair in love and war, huh Steve?

From MY perspective, Nash knew what was coming — he embraced the opportunity to take a foul and he should accept responsibility for the fallout.

Everyone should do this: find a video replay of the foul from BEHIND Nash as he runs upcourt. Play it frame by frame. Look at how Nash runs AT FULL SPEED (why isn’t he trying to take time off the clock with so little time left anyway?) towards Horry (he could easily run away from or around such a bigger, slower guy), he PICKS UP HIS FREAKIN’ DRIBBLE (he knows what’s coming!) and moves the ball to his right as he leans his left shoulder toward Horry. Horry shoves him as if to say, “You want contact? Here’s your contact.”

While I don’t disagree with the flagrant call on the court, I don’t believe Horry’s shove was as hard as Nash made it seem. In fact, I think it was BECAUSE of Nash’s dramatics that his teammates ran off the bench when they saw him get laid out. He made it look a lot worse than it was.

I agree with the suspensions because of the rules, but I don’t think Amare and Diaw were looking to fight. And you should feel lucky that Bell wasn’t suspended also. Horry was suspended for two games; one for the Nash flagrant and the second for his tussle with Bell. Raja lucked out that the league saw that as one-sided.

      Something Suns fans should remember:
Nash’s nose was an accident. (see Nash has been beat up in this series)
Your guy gave Manu a black eye. (see The Spurs are a dirty team)
Amare and Nash both complain when they don’t get calls. (see Duncan is a whiner)
The Spurs beat the Suns twice with Amare and Diaw. (see There should be an asterisk on game 5)

You can’t whine that this happened so we lost, or this didn’t happen and we lost. Every team has to overcome adversity to win. The Spurs have been a winning team for many years but they’ve only got three rings. Spurs fans have no right to say that we should have got another ring if Duncan’s knee or foot was healthy, or Robinson’s back was ok, or if Juwon Howard hadn’t tore Derek Anderson’s shoulder…

      Championships aren’t deserved, they’re won.

    2. Great comment!
      Thanks!
